Mission
To transform education in underserved communities and to empower children in urban schools.
The Inner-City Teaching Corps (ICTC) offers an innovative and proven array of educational programs for urban youth and families. We bring positive educational approaches and problem solving abilities to challenging learning environments:
-
Volunteer Teaching Corps offers an exciting two-year teaching program that places recent outstanding college graduates as teachers in inner-city Chicago classrooms.
- UNITE is designed for mid-career professionals who long for something more: a fulfilling career of service to others.
- Alain Locke Charter Academy is a model public school for the city of Chicago, which develops globally competitive, college-bound students as they strive for "absolute excellence" in their academic pursuits.
- Family Resource & Learning Center is a "one-stop" education source for children and adults, providing families in the East Garfield Park community with a complete family literacy program.
- Books 'n Hoops provides urban teens from various ethnic and racial backgrounds with a weeklong basketball camp and yearlong mentorship activities, combining academics, athletics, and character development towards improved high school performance and increased college admissions.
ICTC supports developing teachers with a highly regarded professional development training program that guides, supports, and rewards Volunteer Teaching Corps and UNITE members as they teach in the inner-city and earn their Alternative Teacher Certification degree from Northwestern University.
The Inner-City Teaching Corps approach has a lasting impact that has permanently—and positively—changed the lives of thousands. It is our calling. It is our mission.
Whether you are a potential donor, a prospective teacher, a parent, or a student, we hope you will explore our programs further.
